Lontra

Usually the otter is nocturnal habits, sleeping during the day on the river and waking at night to seek food. Social groups are formed by females and their offspring, males do not live in groups.
Otter adult measures 55 to 120 inches long (including tail) and weighs up to 35 pounds. Although their meat is not sold in large-scale otter is on the list of animals threatened with extinction mainly by the high value of its skin and the destruction of ecosystems to which the otter is adapted.
This animal has a coat with two layers, one external and one internal waterproof and used for thermal insulation. The body in turn is hydrodynamic, ready to swim at high speed.
It lives on the coast or near rivers where the search food such as fish, crustaceans, reptiles, and less often birds and small mammals.
Only joins a female during the breeding season. The gestation period of the otter is about 2 months and born after 1 to 5 puppies.
